Dancing

A few thoughts on this.

First, excellent work speeding up the video to match the bpm of the Run-DMC song. Definitely skilled work there.

Second, I think it is absolutely fascinating to watch. Clearly there are some similarities in the dancer's movements to breakdancing. But I have strong doubts that teenagers in the Bronx in the late 70's/early 80's had any knowledge of traditional Russian dancing. It makes me wonder if there are some universal constants in dance. The fact that there are just some movements hardwired if you will into the human sub-consciousness no matter where we are or what culture we adhere to.

  1. do we adhere to a culture or does the culture adhere to us? sounded funny to me when i read it and then i thought it presented an interesting ontological problem (besides the semantical one). agency, such a fundamental problem.
